Performance optimization is for an instrument that runs, but not well enough. Peaks move, the baseline is noisy, sensitivity has fallen, or sequences fail for reasons that are not a single broken part.
Mahut separates method issues from hardware issues. Changing a gradient or a split ratio will not fix a leaking pump seal, and a new column will not fix a lamp at the end of its life.
We compare a current checkout with the last known good conditions: flow, temperature, lamp hours or detector signal, gas quality, and column age. Then we change one thing at a time. Typical actions are degassing and priming, cleaning or replacing a flow cell path restriction, setting inlet hardware correctly, or replacing a consumable that the data implicates.
Optimization stops when the checkout matches the performance you need, or when the limit is the method itself. In that case we say so.
Corrective maintenance restores a stopped or failed function. Optimization improves a system that is already up. If the data shows the hardware is fine, we will not sell a repair you do not need.
