Deslorelin Acetate

Deslorelin acetate is an injectable gonadotropin releasing hormone super-agonist also known as an LHRH agonist. It stops the production of sex hormones. Like GnRH, it binds with high affinity to the GnRH receptor on anterior pituitary cells, where it acts as an agonist.

Acutely, it stimulates the secretion of LH and FSH from the anterior pituitary but prolonged, continuous exposure leads to inhibition of secretion by desensitization of the pituitary gonadotropes. As with other GnRH agonists, it has potential therapeutic applications in the treatment of endometriosis, uterine leiomyoma (fibroids), malignant neoplasms, and in assisted reproduction protocols. It is currently used primarily in veterinary practice to induce ovulation in mares and cattle.
